Basalt roving. The power of nature

In early 20th of the XX century the first tries to extrude continuous filaments from basalt rocks were taken place in the USA. Since WW II, French, German, British, Italian and mainly American researchers continued their attempts in the field of Basalt extrusion. Significant research, development and manufacturing however started more than thirty years ago in the USSR. The main research center for this technology was located in Ukraine, near Kyiv.

During the 1960's through the 80's the technology was object of secret and was used in military and aerospace applications. In 1995 it was declassified and released for civilian use. From then on, only very few companies have - with significant investments in R&D and capital - mastered the difficult production process and are producing continuous filament (CF) Basalt fibers in commercial quantities. Although significant research has been carried out by other organizations, including some in the West, these entities have not been successful so far in producing CF Basalt fiber.

The first plant in former Soviet Union was established in Slavuta, Central Ukraine in the late 80's. Since that the experience and wisdom of basalt fiber production was accumulating at that place.

Technobasalt was established and started its production in 2004 in Slavuta and since that became a real leader in Continues Filaments Basalt Fibers production and now can offer full range of basalt fiber and chopped basalt fiber products. The capacity of plant allows providing commercial quantities of those products to customer all over the world.
