Continuous BASALT fiber is a unique product
26.12.2005
The first attempts to extrude continuous filaments from basalt rocks were made in the USA and date back to 1923. Since WW II, French, German, British, Italian and mainly American researchers developed some activities in the field of Basalt extrusion. Significant research, development and manufacturing however started more than thirty years ago in the USSR, mainly in Ukraine.
During the 1960’s through the 80’s the technology was object of secret, military and aerospace applications. In 1995 it was declassified and released for civilian use. From then on, only very few companies have - with significant investments in R&D and capital - mastered the difficult production process and are producing continuous filament (CF) Basalt fibers in commercial quantities. Although significant research has been carried out by other organizations, including some in the West, these entities have not been successful so far in producing CF Basalt fiber.
Technobasalt was established and started its production in 2004 and now can offer full range of basalt fiber and chopped basalt fiber products. The capacity of plant allows providing commercial quantities of those products to customer all over the world.
